Save the date!!!!

The date and place are set!!!! We handed over our cash to the nice folks at Saddlerock Ranch in Malibu and set the date for September 23, 2007.

We were lucky enough to have both Tim's and my parents in LA a couple weekends ago to show them Saddlerock in person and to carry on with more of the wedding planning fun. In four short days, we managed to squeeze in an interview with a DJ, dress shopping, a tasting at one of the caterers, an interview with another, dress shopping, wine tasting, a night at the Magic Castle, and more dress shopping! Mom and Dad also snuck off to Santa Barbara in Tim's fancy pants convertable to enjoy more wine tasting on their own.

Late Entry

This photographer got back to me a little later than the others with his information, but I like his work so I wanted to add him to the blog.

And the wedding goes to...

Saddlerock Ranch! (knock on wood) Tim and I finally decided on Saddlerock Ranch so all y'alls's butts are going to Malibu! We're waiting to hear back from them with some clarification on a couple points in the contract so hopefully we will be able to sign the contract and fork over some money in the next few weeks.

In the mean time, I've been keeping myself busy hunting down photographers and I've got a few here I need opinions on:

Email test

Ok, let's see if this new email list works...

Lake Tahoe Location Scouting

We had a wonderful trip with the folks up in Lake Tahoe this past weekend. My parents were able to fly out last minute and join Tim's parents and us on our location hunting expedition so the combination of being in a beautiful location for a happy event with all of our parents around made the weekend extra special.

Tim's parents were extremely helpful and gracious in previewing these locations for us and arranging the itinerary for the weekend, not to mention driving us practically all the way around the lake both days (the lake takes three hours to circle) so HUGE thanks to the Keenans.

We saw lots of beautiful locations, it's hard to find something that isn't beautiful up there, but one location stood out to the both of us. It's a beautiful beachside restaurant on the north end of Lake Tahoe called Chambers.

Quickie Reno wedding?

Tim and I are off to Reno tomorrow to meet up with the folks, both sets, to review what hopefully will be our last set of possible venues. Actually, I've just found a few more that I want to check out next week so they won't be the last, but almost! Mom and Dad are flying standby on the last flight out of Atlanta to Reno and we're hoping that they won't run into too many issues with this latest terror alert.

Location scouting

I've spend the past few weeks on the hunt for locations for the wedding. Sounds nuts right? Yep, until you find out that many places book well over a year in advance. One location we like is booked most Saturdays next summer already!

Saturday, Tim and I went to take a look at one of our current front-runners, Saddlerock Ranch in Malibu. Tucked away in the Santa Monica Mountains, the ranch is only an hour from Hollywood but far enough away from the traffic and aggrevation we call LA. The ranch is also a working winery and horse stables and in addition to the grapes and horses, they have veritable ark of other animals including zebras, llamas, and buffalo.

On Sunday we also checked out The Wattles Mansion in Hollywood which is actually just down the road and is a beautiful old home, but we thought is was not quite suitable for what we wanted. The floorplan is a little too broken up for what we are looking for and as convenient as it would be to just go down the street...it's also just down the street and we didn't think it would feel quite as special that way.

We also trucked down to Santa Ana to look at The Hacienda which was cute, but not quite intimate enough feeling for the size of our party. It would be a great venue for weddings of 150 + since it's so reasonably priced though.

The Hacienda's website (photography is very flattering, it's less elegant and more Rio Bravo-esque for all of my Atlanta folk

After our long day of free lunch and touring beautiful locations for our wedding, we decided we needed to relax so we ended the day at Newport Beach where Tim managed not to drown himself and where I was able to indulge in my new hobby, wedding magazines! We also lucked out and saw a school of dolphins playing about 10 yards off shore.
